Acreage

The dear wife and I bought the place we live at almost 3 years ago. We moved onto it about two years ago. It means a 45 minute commute, but we both think its worth it.

Description: The property is 15.25 acres, which is a good chunk of land. It's got a small bit of flat land, surrounded by hollows, which have a couple ponds, several springs, and a bit of forest.

Flatland at the top of the hill

One of the power line easements.

The only downsides are that there are 2 power line easements across it, and it's right next to a highway (which is a blessing and a curse: I can get to work in 45 minutes due to the highway, but it adds some noise pollution). Between the highway, and the hollows we have an effective moat, in case anyone near us sells out to some commercial or residential endeavor. Oh, and the ticks. Ticks are a major downside. I'm an arachnophobe, and while I may freak out if I find a spider on me, I despise ticks. I loathe ticks. Spiders just freak me out, but I know intellectually that they have a purpose, a good one, and one that includes eating ticks.

Driveway, with the highway one the right. In a rainstorm no less.

Hillside after one of our recent snowstorms. We don't get much accumulation here, and what we do get is gone in a couple days.

This will be one of the views from where we're planning to put the house. (Yes, we are eventually planning on building a house here, but that will be a while yet). This was taken after an ice storm which took down a couple trees.

Here's the fence-line overlooking the highway. If you look carefully, you can see a stop-sign on the other side. Our mailbox is over on that side of the highway. If you look back at the other picture of the highway, you can see what a difference late spring to late fall makes.

I couldn't find a picture of our pond, marsh, or some of the other fun features on the land (springs, where the turkey's nest was, the creek, etc). Look forward to that in a future entry.

  2. Actually, that wasn't a rainstorm picture Aaron, that was the hail storm. You can see the ice chunks. I brought one in that was the size of a golf ball with significant crystalline structure showing. Weird stuff.
